About me

Living with Thalassemia Major is a journey defined by resilience, meticulous medical management, and a constant balancing act between normalcy and the requirements of a chronic condition. Because the body cannot produce functional hemoglobin, life revolves around a rigorous clinical schedule.

Blood Transfusions: Most patients require blood transfusions every 2 to 4 weeks. These sessions can last several hours, serving as a biological “recharge” to combat the profound anemia that would otherwise cause extreme fatigue and organ failure.

Energy Management: In the days leading up to a transfusion, hemoglobin levels drop, often causing “pre-transfusion fatigue.” Activities that peers find easy—like climbing stairs or playing sports—can feel like a marathon.

Constant Monitoring: Life involves frequent blood tests, MRIs (to check organ iron levels), and consultations with specialists including cardiologists, endocrinologists, and hepatologists.
